Weekly Focus: Gentleness

In an effort to live a life of transformation, let us take the time this week to focus on gentleness.

Focus scripture:

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

How do you react when you find yourself in an unfavorable situation? How do you treat others when you get upset and frustrated? Galatians 5:22-23 tells us of the fruit of the Spirit that should be manifested through us. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to work in us to be more like Christ.
Many might take gentleness as a weakness, however, it is the actual opposite. Gentleness involves humility, politeness, and a restrained behavior towards others.

In an article entitled, "The Strength of Gentleness" by Gary Thomas he beautifully describes what is gentleness. "Gentleness is a strong hand with a soft touch. It is a tender, compassionate approach towards others' weakness and limitations. A gentle person still speaks truth, sometimes even painful truth but in doing so guards their tone so the truth can be well received."

It truly takes a strong person to be gentle. With the help of the Holy Spirit we can change if we decide to turn from our wrong ways. We can put away anger, hostility and the desire for revenge towards others and summit ourselves to the master so He can take control of our lives. Galatians 5:19-21 commands us to put away the works of the flesh in order to inherit the Kingdom of God.

Every chance we get this week, we'll take the opportunity to act in gentleness instead of anger. As we meditate on the Word of God and make an effort to act right, we'll crucify the flesh and be transformed more into the image of God.
